  Job Description

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Vancouver Island Health Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Working without general supervision, the Occupational Therapist works as a member of a multidisciplinary team, providing occupational therapy services to Mental Health & Addiction Services clients and their caregivers, referred to the team.  Is a consultant/resource to referral agencies, care facilities, and caregivers.  Provides general occupational therapy clinical services to team clients.  Participates in the provision of education to the client, the caregiver, the service provider and the public related to Mental Health & Addiction Services. 


  Qualifications

A. Education, Training and Experience

Current practicing registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC).  Graduation from a recognized university with a degree in Occupational Therapy.   One to two years' experience working with Mental Health & Addiction Services clients.  A combination of education and experience may be considered.

B. Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently, as a member of a team and with deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to network with other services and agencies.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills in working with the seriously mentally ill and/or addicted client.
  • Ability to write clear, concise reports.
  • Ability to operate a computer including related software.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislature applicable - i.e. Mental Health Act, Guardianship Act.
